Browns Brushware, New Zealand’s oldest manufacturing brush maker, have developed a brush filter for keeping  spouting free from leaves and debris to make the tedious and dangerous job of cleaning gutters both simpler and safer. Leaves and pine needles that can easily mat and create problems in gutters and trapped and suspended in the Gutter Whiskers brush filter preventing them from bedding in the gutter and blocking downpipes. It also deters birds from bathing or spreading debris over paths and sidings as they forage amongst the leaf mould. installing gutter filters can save a lot of effort and exposure to risk by keeping gutters clear for years at a stretch.

This type of filter is particularly useful where rainwater is collected for drinking. The brush filter allows water to flow without “added extras” and does not allow water to cascade off the roof as net type filters can when leaves become lodged in their holes or algal growth block the finer mesh.

The density and shape retention of the Gutter Whiskers Brush is what sets it apart from similar products. It has properties in the raw materials that make it resilient to UV exposure and natural weathering stresses. The product is made in New Zealand and constructed with high quality, heavy galvanised wire to resist rust in the harsh climate conditions of New Zealand where other thinner material easily breaks down. The brushes can be meshed together for use in wider industrial gutters when needed.

Brush filters are easy to install, and easy to clean requiring no more than a ladder for installation and a hose for cleaning. The filter is simply removed from time to time and the debris washed off. In most cases trapped leaves will decompose harmlessly.
